UNESCO has entered “The art of dry stone walling” in the list of intangible cultural elements declared World Heritage.
The decision was unanimously approved by the 24 member states of the UNESCO Committee responsible for granting recognition.
“The art of dry stone walling”, declares UNESCO, “covers all the knowledge related to the construction of stone structures by stacking the stones on top of each other, not using any other element except dry land. It is one of the first examples of human manufacturing and is present in almost all Italian regions, both for residential purposes and for purposes related to agriculture, in particular for the terracing necessary for crops in particularly steep areas “.
“Stone landscapes” in “Capo di Leuca” aims to travel, by bicycle or on foot, rural landscapes marked by an imposing presence of fences and housing structures.
